Protek Paints Buzzing Sustainably at RHS Chelsea 2025

Painting the Bees for Development in the ‘Making Life Better with Bees’ Balcony Garden

Teaming up with Bees for Development in the ‘Making Life Better with Bees’ Balcony Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, a vibrant Protek paint palette took centre stage and created a huge sustainability buzz, winning both the Silver Gilt Medal as the People’s Choice Best Balcony/Container Garden

Leading the way with sustainability, this story-led garden was created in collaboration with the magnificent team at Bees for Development, an international charity doing incredible work supporting beekeepers and biodiversity across the globe. Their message - that even the smallest spaces can support pollinators, community and climate resilience - came to life in the most joyful and thoughtful way.

Protek worked hand in hand with the team at Bees for Development and the amazing garden designers, The Humble-Bee Gardeners, to create a vibrant, colourful and joyous space using a carefully curated palette of colours to tie the elements of the garden together.

Colour impact went deeper than surface level
Protek Royal Exterior featured in bold, expressive tones like Clouded Yellow and French Lilac

Colour impact went deeper than surface level as Protek paint and stains are ‘carefully considered and consciously made’ to reduce impact on people, pets and pollinators. That matters - especially in a garden designed to celebrate bees and biodiversity.

Every element of the garden wood was meticulously planned to bring the ethos of the garden to life using a range of Protek products - Protek Royal Exterior featured in bold, expressive tones like Clouded YellowFrench Lilac and Carmine Red  and whilst Timber Eco Shield ‘Weathered Wood’ and Protek Decking Stain in ‘Nut Brown’ brought a softer element. The perfectly balanced palette required Protek to create a completely bespoke shade especially for the garden in a distinctive orange-ochre hue.

Overall, an array of over 20 Protek stunning colours were tested.

Overall, an array of over 20 Protek stunning colours were tested by The Humble-Bee Gardeners and honed for harmony and then sent to Bees for Development to commence painting of the balcony garden wooden structure.

The painting team received and opened a jungle of Protek paint tins brimming with luscious paint and stains colours to masterfully transform them into intricate patterns and details painted on the stunning block colour walls and upcycled wooden hives.  It was no mean feat, this artistic creation took skill, sweat and a little sanity! The hard work of the Bees for Development team was reflected in the stunning result of a visually uplifting space bursting with colour to provide impact, inspiration and joy to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 visitors who responded with a resounding response, voting the Bees For Development 'Making Life Better with Bees' as the ‘People’s Choice Balcony Garden.’

We’re incredibly proud of what this partnership achieved.
Skilled collaboration and purposeful paint can turn even the smallest outdoor space into something truly special.

The final garden also featured hand-crafted planters made from old honey barrels, a bark hive resting in a fallen oak trunk, and planting designed to support pollinators and thrive in challenging climates.

We’re incredibly proud of what this partnership achieved and grateful to everyone who visited, supported and cheered the garden on at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025. It’s a reminder that thoughtful design, skilled collaboration and purposeful paint can turn even the smallest outdoor space into something truly special – the future is bright with Protek!
