July - This Month’s Colours

The inspiration for this month’s colours has to come from the Olympics. As our leading sportsmen and women are putting in their final preparations for the grand event and London becomes utterly gridlocked, we can all enjoy the contrasting peace and tranquillity of our gardens.

I shall be making a visit to the Olympic village to enjoy the spectacle of the women’s basketball and will be cheering on team GB!

WIN WITH WOOD Winners May 2012

WIN WITH WOOD Winners May 2012Amazingly enough a number of you managed to find the time and rare windows of dry sunshine, to take part in our competition. We had some fantastic entries and thank you very much to everyone who sent in their pictures.

As always it was quite difficult to narrow it down to 3 winners but we did finally come to a decision. There seems to have been a theme in this competition with a lot of people creating some rather spectacular animal houses.

Stripes take first place again but this time with a highly innovative and striking chicken coop, designed, built and painted by Derek Saunders from Cambridgeshire. Derek won with his picture of a beautifully constructed house for some hens that he was asked to re-home.

Ist Place

Derek used a variety of Wood Protector colours combining Poppy, Marigold, Cornflower and Amaranth to create a palace that any hen would be proud to call home! First prize of a £70 hamper brimming with local Somerset produce has been delivered to Derek who took great delight in unpacking it all.

Win with Wood 2nd Place

2nd Place
A very close second place was taken by Catherine Fisher from Brighton with her stylish shed and garden furniture. Catherine used Cranberry Crush Wood Protector to decorate and protect her table and chairs, now looking very striking against the subtle tones of her shed painted in Stone Grey Royal Exterior, beautifully contrasting with the stained glass window.

3rd Place
Third place has been awarded to two entrants as we couldn’t choose between them. Susanna Thomas also cheered up her chicken shed with a symphony of Wood Protector colours, whilst Peter Ernst from Homes for Wildlife sent in pictures of their ladybird boxes painted in Wood Protector Ebony and Poppy. We loved the design and they are currently selling on Amazon.

We will be running another Win With Wood competition in the near future so please do keep the pictures coming. Send them in to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and you’ll be automatically entered in to the next competition.

WOOD PRESERVER coming soon to Protek website

Protek Wood PreserverWe are very happy to announce that we have developed an industry leading Wood Preserver that will soon be available to buy on the website.

Update:  Protek Clear Wood Preserver has arrived.

Protek Wood Preserver is a clear water-based wood preservative based on modified vegetable oil for the pre-treatment of wood in outdoor areas, out of ground contact. It employs spirit-based technology into a water-based product, acting against wood destroying and wood discoursing fungi (blue stain and rot), according to EN152, EN113, EN73 and EN84.

Protek Wood Preserver penetrates wood easily and thereby gets deep into inner layers. It is moisture regulating and provides an adhesive surface for subsequent treatment with finishing top coats. Wood Preserver should be used on un-pressure treated timber, cut timber (as an end coat) and when original preservative coatings have expired.

Use as a base coat to protect against rot then apply a treatment from one of our Shed & Fence, Wood Protector or Royal ranges to water-proof and colour your timber!

June - This Month’s Colours

June will be a month of glorious floral colours and many celebrations including Father’s Day, the first day of summer and of course, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It’s a great month to be getting out in the garden and cheering up your old timber or painting some wood stain on some trestle tables to be used at one of the hundreds of street parties that will be happening all over the country.

This month’s colours have to be a Jubilee Special and are taken from our Wood Protector range.

Protek Products featured on primetime ITV1 & HD 26 June 2012

Love Your GardenThe new series of “Love Your Garden” presented by Alan Titchmarsh began on Tuesday 26th June 2012 at 8.00pm.

This popular primetime ITV 1 and ITV HD series is loved by gardeners from keen amateurs to professional landscape gardeners, offering advice and entertainment from the demi-god of gardening, Alan Titchmarsh and his team of advisers. As fans of the show we supplied them with some of our wood stains and advised them on a feature that they filmed showing viewers how and why to choose wood stains.

In Episode 1 David Domoney used Royal Exterior Black on the decking and planters in Chandler’s Ford where they designed a tranquil Japanese style garden for the inspirational owner, Louise.

Episode 3 featured the Lichfield summerhouse made by UK Garden Buildings and painted externally with Royal Soft Sage & Pale Sage with a Parsonage Cream Interior. On the 17th July they will be featured again after supplying the team with a Potting Shed and the Radbourne Garden Room. Later in the series Alan and his team will be using a variety of our grey shades from the Royal Exterior range to transform a garden in Norfolk belonging to a complete hero.

Watch out for us and check out their website for more tips and advice

See accompanying document “A Brief History of Stains” for information provided to production company on why and how to choose wood stains.

April - This Month’s Colours

In Somerset you’d hardly believe that spring is here, as we sit blanketed in a shroud of mist that seems to carpet the whole of the Mendips. However there’s plenty of spring action in the countryside and in my garden with daffodils spreading golden cheer and snowdrops gracefully hanging their heads to stir gently in the breeze.

Although my head is full of Easter and the anticipation of lots of lovely chocolate eggs, this month’s colours are in honour of the flowers bringing me joy in my garden and are represented by wood stains in our Royal range.

March - This Month’s Colours

Spring is here and it’s time to get busy! March is full of festivities beginning with St. David’s Day and followed by both St. Patrick’s Day and Mothering Sunday bringing further celebrations to the middle of the month.

We should also be enjoying some spells of warmer weather and gardens brimming with new buds and spring-time colour. Anemone’s, aster’s, freesia’s and gerbera’s show a riot of warm and vibrant colours that will brighten and lift any garden and the people that enjoy it.
