In the last moments of our Indian summer back in September we embarked on the last project of the year. The sand pit was in desperate need of some t.l.c. to protect it against the coming winter and a splash of colour was essential to make it more fun for the children to play with.

As always we started by thoroughly cleaning the wood with water and detergent and scrubbing with a wire brush. It was then left to dry before applying Marigold and Primrose Wood Protector to give it a sunny sandy beach theme.

The end result is far prettier than before, looking quite retro and ready to take on the deluge of rain and cold weather that this winter is sure to bring.

On an unusually warm day in April I looked at my garden furniture and decided that after 4 years of abuse from the English weather it was time for a treat. My furniture set consisted of 2 chairs, 2 benches and a table. As you can see from the pictures the furniture was in desperate need of cleaning to remove the dirt and algae that had built up over the years.

I gave this furniture set a really good clean by blasting it with my husband’s pressure washer—which got into every nook and cranny in double quick time. 

Warm soapy water and a stiff brush would have worked as well but not as much fun. Admittedly not only did I remove the dirt and algae but also most of the 4 year old coating that was previously there.

Once the furniture was completely dry I liberally applied a coat of Venetian Red Royal Exterior Wood Finish—which has transformed my old tatty furniture to a decadent, luxurious, brand new looking garden furniture set.

Amount of Royal Venetian Red used was 2.5 litres in total for 2 chairs, 2 benches and a table.
